A part of the State Performance Plan for the State of Rhode Island is an indicator called Early Childhood Outcomes. The State is required as part of it's plan, to address the educational progress of children, ages 3-5 with Individual Educational Plans. The State has to annually report on the percent of preschool children with IEPs who demonstrate improved positive social and emotional skills, improved acquisition and use of knowledge and skills, and improved use of appropriate behaviors to meet their needs. The Rhode Island Department of Education has chosen Creative Curriculum.net, an on-line assessment system developed by Teaching Strategies for assessing children and reporting the assessment data.

Creative Curriculum.net

  • This program will allow districts to input child assessment data and receive back a measure of the child's current level of performance. The data will be used to report progress in each of the areas required by the Office of Special Education Programs in Washington.
  • The pilot districts for the project were Newport, Coventry, Westerly, Cranston, Smithfield, and Central Falls.
  • In 2008 additional districts will include East Providence, North Smithfield, Pawtucket, Jamestown, Middletown, Foster, Glocester and West Warwick.
